Client Goals & Ambitions
The brief was about keeping family close. The clients wanted to build two homes on a single large section: a larger family home for themselves and a smaller dwelling for their in-laws. The idea was simple but meaningful. Grandparents nearby to support a growing family, with each household still enjoying its own independent space. Both homes needed to be built from low-maintenance, durable materials that would hold their appearance and ask very little of the owners over time.
Challenges
The site set its own terms from the start. Loose, sandy ground conditions called for a specialised foundation design, and a large gum tree stood exactly where one of the water tanks needed to go. On top of the site itself, the project carried the responsibility of delivering two quality homes within a single agreed budget and construction programme.
How We Overcame These Challenges
Piled foundations paired with RibRaft concrete floor systems gave both homes a stable, long-lasting base suited to the sandy conditions. The gum tree's removal was carefully planned and coordinated so construction could begin without delay. Throughout the build, clear communication with the clients kept costs closely managed, ensuring that any variations came from their own choices rather than construction issues.
Why This Project Was a Success
Two high-quality, low-maintenance homes now sit side by side, built around the way this family wants to live long term. The project was completed within budget, with only minor variations driven by the clients' own product and finish selections. Both homes offer a modern, attractive look with minimal upkeep. Most importantly, they deliver a practical answer to multi-generational living: a family that stays connected, with the privacy and independence of two separate homes.
